February is Canned Food Month

National Canned Food Month is celebrated in February. The Canned Food Information Council established the month in 1987 to educate people about the nutritional value of canned food.

Why celebrate canned food month?

To help people prepare for emergencies by stocking up on non-perishable food

To dispel the misconception that canned food is less nutritious than fresh food

What foods to include in a canned food stockpile?

Canned meats, poultry, fish, and seafood

Canned vegetables and vegetable juices

Canned fruits and fruit juices

Canned milk

Ready-to-eat cereal, crackers, and pretzels

Water

Canned foods are great for food banks as they are non-perishable and can be stored without refrigeration or freezing.

If you would like to donate unexpired canned items, please go to the Contact page, and fill out the form. Choose “donate food" and we will send you a list of what we need & when you can drop off.

Businesses, schools, and other organizations may organize a food drive to make larder donations.
